I was made redundant in 2005 and it was the best think that could have happened to me. I got a bit a money from redundancy payments that allowed me to seriously think about my options and what I really wanted to do with my life. I have changed careers and do now something I really enjoy and I have also started an OU course.
As you didn't seem happy in your company, if you are made redundant it could be a fantastic opportunity for you.

Here are a couple of links you could look at before starting your day:

Hi there, I have no "practical" help to offer I'm afraid, but just wanted to say that if you are made redundant, then it is obviously because there is something else out there that is better for you!

    Hi,

You need to take advice urgently. I'm sure that you need a consultation period (I think it's ninety days) and they should offer redeployment if it's possible. Employers are expected to act in a reasonable manner and I'm sure a tribunal would think 2 weeks notice (unless the company went out of business) was unreasonable.

Well today I have written a letter to my Company letting them know how upset I am with the way they have treated me. We have had nothing in writing and no confirmation of when we have to go to head office to find out who will get the chop. I have also mentioned the fact that they have not offered any alternative within the company even though they are still advertising externally for the same job as ours on a different division. I have spoken to ACAS but they can not do anything untill my Company actually does something. I still know nothing more than I did last night on how they are going to do it.

I dont think it has set in yet as I dont know yet who it will be and my collegue is in pretty much the same state :(

We both got a message this afternoon that there will now be somebody that we can talk to in Human Resources tomorrow so I may have more information then.

Im just going to have a look at those links - thanks

A couple years ago I got a new job and handed in my notice.

The very next day they offered voluntary redundancies to the entire department, which meant I could have got a few grand and already had a new job to go to.

    Hiya oops.

Really sorry to hear this has happened.

I hope that you can find another job soon and like the others have said, you sound like you have good skills and are a good worker so fingers crossed something else will be out there for you very soon *if* it is you that is made redundant.

Thank goodness you cleared the debts when you did. I know it's not much consolation but at least you don't have those old debts to contend with.

I hope you get some good news soon.
