  • Should have asked the question:

are you in a union? If so contact you local representative asap and they can attend all the meetings with you and will support you every step of the way.

I think that you ll be fine it may not even be you. Stay positive :)
  • I think brainfreeze has a point...my husband was made redundant last year. However there are lots of ways companies wriggle around stuff like that.
Keep going one step at a time and be strong. All the very best and keep us posted.

  • I would definitely get my cv sorted and actually start looking for another job if i were you. Even if this company does not make you redundant, maybe you will still find a better/similar job which you feel happier in. If this is the way they are going to treat their staff, they do not deserve your loyalty and if you are not particularly happy in this job, maybe this happening has done you a favour by making you look at alternatives anyway. Hth, in the meantime, goodluck.

am not in a union but I have been advised to talk to ACAS who can give me advice but if I get no joy there I will contact the CAB - never thought of them so thanks for suggesting it :T

am going to try to go to bed and get some sleep because I have to be up early tomorrow to see a customer in the morning and make out nothing has happened :(

must try to stop looking on the dark side of this

I think its rather sh**ty actually to tell you that we might be making one of you redundant and then you not have anyone to talk to about it at work until next week! That is rather cruel and would not surprise me if they have not done this to spur one of you on to go and get another job and spare them having to pay redundancy.

I would look around for another job but wait until they offer you redundancy before jumping ship.

Anway have a hug on me!

brainfreeze is right, the rule is ( broadly) that if they have to make someone redundant they have to search around the company to see if that person can be redeployed elsewhere, ( even head office) if the employee is wiling to travel etc. If there is NO SUTABLE REDEPLOYMENT OPTION, only then can the co offer redundancy.

I also think 2 week notice is illegal as well

if you do become redundant this way, you will have a strong legal case. I would personally look for another job anyway, soound like this co is acting without a fig for the law,

Chin up you can do better xx
