From my time in the trade, the british standard is 1100-1200mm high with gaps of no more than 100mm centres. Any chance of uploading a picture?0

sure 1100mm was mentioned as a minimum but I don't see where anyone mentioned the maximum for means of escape

essentially correct but you can crib a little on that.
It meets spec provided that a 100mm dia sphere cannot pass through the rails at any point, which means the rails can be spaced a little wider as the thickness of material used comes into play.
100mm is the accepted gap size at which a babies head cannot pass through.
