Hi all,
Does anyone know if both parties receive letters regarding carer's allowance or just one? eg regarding payments etc
Thanks in advance

I get letters, my husband (who I care for) doesn't. But he did get letters to tell him how his IB would be changing because of having a carer.0

Thank you :-)
Did he get one originally to tell him how much you would be getting?
I'm awaiting a decision and I know its on its way, I just know it will confuse my grandad if he gets one.

youre claiming Carers fot looking after your grandfather but you havent told him?
what benefits does he receive and does he live alone?0 -
Hi, no he didn't, but there are various allowances that might change for your grandfather- I don't know the exact ones as not a pensioner- so he may still get a letter telling him his money will change. It's probably best to try and find out if there will be any changes and prepare him if he is able to remember what you tell him.0

Nowhere did I say that he didn't know, and I'm not sure I deserve the accusatory tone of your post. The fact he is my grandad, the fact he would be confused and that I am claiming carer's allowance for him might have been a clue that he's not totally capable of understanding what he is told.
Wicked_witch, thank you, again :-)
He get's DLA, no other benefits, so I don't know what will be affected. I'm just worried he's going to get an official looking letter talking about money, and panic. He has alzheimer's so no matter what I tell him, it's just not sticking.

I had to sign a letter to say I understood that my sister claiming carers allowance for me could affect my other benefits. There was also a declaration to say my sister provided care for 35 hours per week.0

I explained that, to the best of my ability, and he signed that, we sent that off. I just want to make sure nothing drops through the door whilst I'm not around and either confuses him, or scares the bejesus out of him. He'll only see the bit that says money, not the bit referring to who or why.

It doesn't seem likely then. Maybe drop round before the time he normally gets post for the next few days, if you can and are very worried, but he shouldn't get a letter saying 'Dear Grandad, honey is now getting x money for caring for you' especially if DLA is all he gets, as that won't be affected. I think it is things like attendance allowance that are changed.0

Thanks :-)
You've put my mind at rest a bit, as I can't get there first thing in a morning as I have other responsibilities, but I might mention it to his morning carer.

By all means do- we carers don't need any more worries than we already have!
Good luck with it all and make sure you're in contact with your councils Carer Support team if you aren't already. You'll need to be supported as well
