Hi guys quick two questions for you which have probably already been asked somewhere deep down in the depths of this now very, very, very long thread........... so I'm sorry if I'me repeating it.
When you spend a minimum amount and have the option of returning it for a refund but decide not to. Does what you spend count as an expense with regard to tax or not?
Also, say you have a £1 towards your purchase and it costs £1.96. Does the whole £1.96 go down as an expense?
Trying to sort my books out you see.
Thanks in advance

I applied for TNS and didn't get it! I am shocked as I filled in the online form meticulously and I am certainly not new to the Mystery Shopping Field. Wonder what I did wrong....any ideas?Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Email them back and ask for feedback. They'll tell you your score and what the pass rate is. I failed and I've been mystery shopping for a couple of years now. I've reapplied and still waiting to hear back.0 -

How long do you have to leave it before you reapply? It was a questionaire and a half wasn't it?Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Bad news on both of these, I'm afraid.
If you have the chance to return something for a refund and choose not to, it can't be regarded as an expense - it is not something bought wholly and exclusively in your work role because if you didn't need it, you would have returned it!
If £1.96 is the lowest value thing you can possibly buy, then I would handle it as follows. Claim the whole £1.96 AND email the MS company to tell them they are not giving a big enough allowance. Keep a copy of the email. You will then have a defence if the tax people ever query this. But if you have CHOSEN to spend more than your allowance, you can only claim the £1. Otherwise we would all be overspending on all our assignments and claiming back the whole lot for tax!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Thanks for that. All sorted now and 'books' up to date.0

I got feedback the same day and I got the impression I could reapply straight away although I left it a couple of days so I could do it when I had some peace and quiet.
It is a hell of a questionnaire. A tad over the top I think, but I guess it filters out some of the people who just want to do mystery shopping for the freebies.0
