Eon, Paying by credit card?

I'm with Eon for my gas and electricity and pay by monthly direct debit.
I don't suppose I can use my cashback credit card (not Santander) to pay for my gas and electricity?

Not without losing your discount for paying monthly by DD, which is probably more than any cashback credit card offers.
Also I don't see credit cards mentioned as an acceptable method of payment on an Eon bill. Debit card, yes, but not a credit card.0 -
Your tariff may require monthly fixed DD payment, refer to the T&C's.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi retiredin2011
You can certainly pay your bills by either credit or debit card if you wish. We accept Switch/Maestro, Solo, Visa, Mastercard and Electron.
Although, as Wywth and macman say, you'll lose your discount for paying with a Monthly Direct Debit.
Also, we've recently introduced a 1.5% handling fee for payments made by credit card.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more info as will be happy to help.

The old handling charge that disappeared from most companies has reappeared then in order to make more profit.
I wonder how that complies with SLC27.2A?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

With companies charges they are like a balloon, squeeze it at one point and another point will pop out to compensate so the balloon remains the same size just a different shape.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Nothing to say they cant, as several other options to make by other means. Also in the era it trys to discorage payment by this means inrelation the debt.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0 -

Of course it complies...that SLC states the supplier can add costs to the terms.
Misread, doh!
The credit card charge was how it all began years ago and companies removed it with it being so unpopular and once a competitor did it, you had little choice.
Sadly in this market, we can't easily buy from another seller and you quickly run out of places to purchase!
In terms of cost to the company, its not going to be a factor in operational costs unless its a lot of customers, but I know what you mean by using it as a method to dissuade customers from using it. After all, DD s are seen as a good thing but they generate a huge amount of supplier inbound calls and account checks as opposed to the old receipt of bill method.
Given some credit card companies charge higher merchant fees (last I heard) I wonder that % profit is per transaction on the lower ones?:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

Hi Terry
Just thought I'd mention, the 1.5% fee applies to credit cards only. All other payment methods are unaffected.
The fee is to cover our costs in handling credit card payments.
