is there any need for the sarcasim?
i only asked a simple question which now i wish i hadnt bothered with :(
my laptop for your info is less than a year old sony and over a £1k when i got it. so yes decent. least for me!
i will try re installing itunes and certainly wont bother asking on here again
Strangely enough, those of us who post on here trying to help are not psychic. Usually to try and diagnose a problem we need information and asking for operating system details and versions of installed software is a vital first step.
As others have already said, Real Player is ancient and has always had a bad reputation and it could be interfering with iTunes.

May I suggest using the free download of Revo Uninstaller to uninstall both real Player and iTunes then re-install iTunes making sure you are installing the correct version for your OS.

    Running ccleaner will also help

    THIS is sarcasm:
!!!!!!!!!! would you like salt and vinegar with that chip on your shoulder
The rest is not. I asked about Real Player because we could have suggested an alternative for whatever secret thing it is you use it for, as it's generally regarded as pretty rubbish software. It's your personal preference to keep it of course so go ahead. I would guess, since it crashes when you press play, that iTunes is having an argument with your sound driver. Make sure it's up to date.
Establishing the model number of your lovely £1k Sony, what version of Windows, and whether we're on 32 or 64 bit would be helpful, attacking the people trying to help you would not!
