Electric blanket

I hate getting in to a cold bed, how much does a electric under blanket cost to use? I know all about putting extra clothes on etc but just hate a cold bed!
Also whats the best make to get?
I have a hot water bottle but its just not warm enough. Would only put it on for a hour or so a day.

I love my electric blanket but sadly we got rid of it when moving house, it was only a double and we have a kingsized bed and the plastic bits were driving us mental, i'm waiting til after xmas to see if i can pick one up cheap.

Cost wise mines acually said on the bag it costs something like an average of 12p an hr :) you only need it to warm the bed so well worth the money.(it was a morphy richards dual control one)

Prob is you won't want to get out of bed from the warm into the cold ;)

I wouldn't waste money on an underblanket if you feel the cold in bed. Do the thing properly and get an overblanket and be warm all night.

You've either misread or misunderstood the costs involved - electric blankets only cost a small fraction of that to run!
  • I love mine too. I bought a Silent Night one from either Aldi or Lydls - cant remember. It only needs to be on for 20-25 minutes and I turn it off before I get in. When I get in it is so cosy that makes me do the 'jean claude van damme snow angel' movement from the beer ad.lol

No idea how much to run so cant help u there.

I bought an electric underblanket 3 years ago and it is one of the best things I have ever bought,I am so glad of it during the winter months.

I think I bought it off Amazon,as I buy most things from there,it is similar to this one

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-75184-Washable-Underblanket/dp/B0052WHHES/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350905021&sr=8-1

Some of the reviews are mixed, but I love mine.It is slightly small for a double, but as I sleep alone,it is fine for me.I switch it on about 30 minutes before I go to bed,on the highest setting and that is enough to have the bed lovely and warm when I get in it.

I bought a morphy richards dual control blanket last year. Best money I ever spent. We are without central heating at the moment (have been for a couple of years but hopefully not much longer) and use expensive oil-filled radiators to heat the rooms we're in. Don't bother with the bedroom anymore -just stick the blanket on high half an hour before getting into bed and switch it off when we're in. Lovely and toasty.

Box says its less than 1p all night if you keep it on the lowest setting. Haven't measured it myself but even if they're underestimating by a factor of 10, its well worth it IMO.

  • I love love love my electric blanket. I use mine every night through winter mainly on pre-heat, and only have it on overnight if it's very cold or I've been up with my little 'un and got chilly. I don't notice any real difference in my bills winter versus summer so I would say the cost is very low. Having it on for an hour to make the bed toasty makes a huge difference if you're cold in bed at night.

It's worth every penny, you definitely should get one!

Bought mine from Mr T a couple of years ago.
I love it!! The running cost can't be much - but it's worth every penny just to get into a warm bed on a cold night.
