A recon like that should be OK, same warranty as new.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Anyone got any advice on the relative costs of toners of different models?
Can you get cheaper makes, like you can with inkjet cartridges?0 -
With 100pp per month, you won't be buying it very often. Laser toner lasts for thousands of impressions. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I bought a Dell 1250C Laser (or strictly LED) printer from Tesco a few months back, for £60 less £10 for your first online order so £50 net.
I had a £20 inkjet which was nearly out of ink after only a few prints so I'm hoping it does 2.5 x as many before wanting new toner.
I only occasionally need colour prints but I'm very pleased with it so far.0 -
I;ve just replaced a Brother laser printer which I'd had for about 12 years. I think I bought one new toner catridge. Since I bought it, prices have come down considerably. I bought an HP p1102w (£80 from Amazon), which also works with my Ipad using Airplay. Very happy with it. The introductory cartridge says it covers about 700 pages (so would last you a while). A new toner is about £43 (and I think covers 3,000 pages, which is about standard for a full toner cartridge), although you can buy non-original versions cheaper (I don't buy these any more). I have an inkjet that I use if I want colour (but you don't get many page prints, or they dry up with little use, and you waste loads recharging them).
A laser just churns out page after page, and is very cost effective IMHO0 -
I've got a Samsung CLX-2160 colour laser/scanner/copier. I've had it years and it produces excellent prints including photos, I have several A4 photo prints in frames on my walls. The toner lasts ages and I simply refilled them rather than replace them. Take a look at this page;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-CLX-2160-CLX-3160-complete-cartridges/dp/B001A22FLE
I bought the refill bottles, not from Amazon, but look at the set of compatible cartridges for under £16 for the full set and the CLP-300 printer for under £90, it's the same as mine but without the scanner/copier.
It all looks pretty cheap to me.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Samsung have moved on since your printer, the current machines are not as easy and at the cheap end of the market they don't really work out that economical to run, also Samsung are putting out some pretty aggressive firmware updates, should you be unfortunate enough to accept one, it will lock your printer into OEM toners only, the firmware update detects non original chips, the same goes for some Dell machines.
The Brother machine that was mentioned earlier is not a refurb, it's an 'A' grade machine, we sell lots of these, they are machines that have been used a demo printers, most will only have been taken out of the box but not used, those that have been used have usually only done a dozen or so prints.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Thanks to everyone who has been kind enough to reply. Still not sure what to do - information overload - the more I read, the more confused I feel!0

My daughter, who subscribes to Which, told me that they are conducting tests on printers, in this months issue.
I think that you can take a limited trial membership for £1,
or it will be free for you to read in your local library, in a few days time.
Hope that helps.0 -

Thank you Dave. Actually, I have already been trawling through the Which reviews, in addition to those on here and on Amazon. Probably why I am suffering from information overload!
I am getting round to the idea of getting another inkjet, maybe an all-in-one, with particular emphasis on being able to use compatible inks.
But the reviews I read are so conflicting! I have been pleased with my old Canon pixma ip4000 until it broke. In fact, it was better than any other inkjet printer I had, which included HP and Epson. If a new Canon would be as good, that would be OK. But there seem to be a fair few votes for Epson on here as well, although when I look them up sometimes they are out of stock.
I am just going round in circles!
Although this is different from my original question, it would be fantastic if someone could anyone recommend a reliable all-in-one inkjet that takes cheap compatibles and post the links to them?
Thank you all again! WB0
