I'm sure I don't get right of a hire car if I take option b while everything is getting sorted.
Another route maybe not possible since engineer came out is to phone the person responsible and see if they would prefer to pay me rather than put their premium up. Not sure if it is classed as me having made a claim yet ?

    b) I accept 750 and pay for new mot and VIC (to know that its a proper car not two welded together after repair I imagine) AND try and get it insured which is the main issue with b ! Its at best a month without a car for myself also.
    Sounds good.

Why would you be without a car for a month?

It's the engineers test that takes this time. Ridiculous considering it's a superficial dent and it was motd a month ago.
I guess the engineer who inspected the car is selling old rope to us.

    What engineer's test?

All they do at a VIC check is check the numbers. I didn't even get time to finish my :coffee: before he was back in :)
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

Ask them to make a cash offer in lieu of the repair and not record it as written off.

This line is supportable if it's only cosmetic, not a safety issue, as it's more or less the same as you invoicing them for doing the repairs yourself at below the value.

Why not go and get a few quotes from local body shops/accident repairers to find out what the real cost is.

A few years ago I did this with Direct line as i didn't want an hours drive to their approved repairer and they paid for it to be done by a local shop.

Then find the highest priced adverts for cars of the same make/model/standard.

From what you have said the repair quotes will be lower than the cost or a replacement car so when presented with the evidence you may be able to get them to repair. It's always worth being persistent.

They said as soon as the engineer made the mark in his book that was it. Wow what a powerful 'man' not possible to change it so I said that now puts up the cost of me repairing and vic ing and moting ....so they increased their offer and to get rid of the business we accepted to keep it on the road and me take 20% less than their valuation. Thanks for all your input guys.

  • Pity the person that caused the damage did not bung you a few quid for the repair. If you claim, you will be paying for the next few years on increased premiums. I'm suffering this on a theft of my vehicle. Not my fault but I'm paying increased premiums on every vehicle I own.

For a 1999 Focus I'd just go for the buy back option, take the money and not even bother repairing the damage, short of a bit of paint to prevent any rust, if necessary.

They're decent enough cars but they're worth banger money these days, so a scratch or small dent is not going to make a dent (lol) in the value of the car if you come to sell it.

So that's a few hundred quid in your pocket for no work. Pay off some debt, put it in savings, or treat yourself.
