Oh just get on with it. After 19 years of living with cats, I think you must've shared enough germs one way or another to waste a good stew. The cat obviously thought it was good so TUCK IN!

That was starting to be my thought. I expect we've eaten plenty that we haven't noticed the cats have sampled before us. And yes, they are often on the work surfaces, jumping down as soon as they are spotted.

Stew for tea tonight then. Thanks for everybody's thoughts
  • That's really bad advice, the food has been cooked & only just finished cooling, it should therefore be refrigerated asap and only reheated once.

To boil it again, cool it again then refrigerate it would only work if the OP want's to eat it cold tomorrow/later!

I will remember this advise when my week old chilli is warmed up again tonight, and tomorrow as well.

That's your prerogative, and luckily you've not had food poisoning from following a poor food hygiene practice but it's not good advice to pass onto others.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I'd eat it..Just scrape around the nibbled areas & bin that bit..waste not want not as my ol mum used to say..
My old cat Orbit was quite partial to a nice lamb madras or chicken tikka vindaloo...I kid you NOT!

Yep, hale and hearty and I didn't lose any sleep over eating it. Who knows what may be living inside me now

Good to know you're ok and no ill effects :)

My mum enjoys regailing me about her childhood - especially about week old soup that was re heated every day and had something else mixed in to change the taste. Didn't kill her, either!

I'd have eaten it too. My cat sleep in my bed, licks my face, climbs all over me and occasionally dribbles on me when she's happy and purring, so yeah...I'm probably immune to whatever abominations she carries by now! :)

Yes I would have eaten it too, the only concession being heating it for several minutes longer than usual :)
