BT broadband

Hi All,
I'm new here but just wanted to let you know that BT are getting customer friendly ( I say that with a slight hesitation). How so, you ask?
Quite frankly, I'm fed up waiting for my 2MB upgrade and I'm sick of paying £24.99 a month for something I can get cheaper elsewhere. So, I phoned BT and said I wanted to cancel my broadband (I'm over the contract). Why? Because I'm going to Tiscali for £14.99 a month, 1MB speed. Sorry to hear that, let me pass you through to our Broadband section...
To cut a long story short (which as a novelist I don't like doing - LOL) they offered to increase my speed to 2MB immediately. I paused, not convinced, and explained the price was the actual issue. They didn't miss a beat and gave me 25% off for 4 months (i.e a £6.50 reduction). The benefit to me of accepting this is that it doesn't tie me into a new contract so I can phone up and 'renegotiate' (the man said as much) or leave without penalty after that time. He also told me that BT now provide free e-mail (shouldn't they have done that in the first place instead of charging £1.50 per month?).
So, if like me, you actually think BT is as good as anybody (and probably better than some), then give them a ring and put the screws on.
Happy surfing.

The fact they are doing this a lot now makes me think they are getting scared of all the people they are loosing due to thier cap. You should be even more pleased as the guy actually saved you from a fate worse than death by stopping you going to Tiscali. I think everyone should ring up and negotiate a new price for thier service.
Considering UK Online now offer 8MB and 500GB download limit for £29.99 compared to BT 2MB and 30GB limit for £29.99 they might be a bit more generous (BT Yahoo)0
