Could you do this (buying the iPhone 4S from o2)?

My sister bought a 4S this week. She got iOS5.1.1 on it.
I do not want iOS6 on it (if i was to buy a 4S). Getting into the whys & why nots on MSE doesn't matter - i don't want iOS6.
Could i ask for one with 5.1.1 on it (as i'm quite sure they'll have another), or is it a case of get what you're given & like it or lump it?

You can ask but unless you get an old box thats been sitting out the back or a refurb unit it will come with the latest updates.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

It would be a slight lottery, and the odds would be better at a network shop rather than from Apple.
The longer you wait, the less chance you will have.
No shop will open and activate the phone just so you can check the iOS version and unfortunately until the phone is actually activated there is no way of checking the version.
My suggestion would be to buy one from the same place your sister did, with the mad demand for the iphone 5 I doubt there are many deliveries of the 4S happening, the instore stock should remain stable for a while.====0

Chances aren't going to be good i think. Each time i think i've decided on the 4S, i think the S3 would be a better option. Then when i think i've decided on the S3, i think i'd miss the iPhone & should opt for the 4S.

If you are used to the way the iphone works and like the feel/build quality, you might struggle with the S3. Of all the more expensive android phones the S3 feels the cheapest made.
I got the white S3 as my free upgrade and the closest phone I've had in the "feel" of the phone was the original Orange San Francisco. It's a horrible, smooth, shiny plastic (almost greasy feeling) and it feels like the battery cover will crack every time it creaks and flexes when you remove it.
Even my older S2 feels better made, from a higher grade of plastic, and the iPhones are another league above it.====0

I've updated my iPad to iOS6 and it works fine. The new design for the App Store is horrible though.I do not want iOS6 on it (if i was to buy a 4S). Getting into the whys & why nots on MSE doesn't matter - i don't want iOS6.
Have you got an Apple Store you can visit? They will know if they have iPhone 4Ss left with iOS 5 or not.0

I don't have a problem with the build quality of the S3. My wife has an S3 & my sister has just bought the 4S.If you are used to the way the iphone works and like the feel/build quality, you might struggle with the S3. Of all the more expensive android phones the S3 feels the cheapest made.

I will say the iPhone does feel like it's been put together better, but i'm not going to sit there with my iPhone admiring it's build quality. I'm going to be using it - games, web browsing etc etc.
If android had the sat nav i wanted & a better game scene, then i wouldn't even be questioning it. NavFree is good for a free satnav, but it's no tomtom (i believe the refcently released tomtom on android doesn't work for the S3). I'm a big street fighter fan & have various versions on my iPhone 3GS ...... yet there isn't a single one for the android market.
That said, i'm impressed with the speed & screen quality of the S3 & how you can customize it right out the box.
The overpriced iPhone 5 is an instant no-no.
The nearest Apple store is a 1hour drive from me. I made a thread recently in the rants section of the board about the experience i had there.Humphrey10 wrote: »I've updated my iPad to iOS6 and it works fine. The new design for the App Store is horrible though.

Regards the iPhone 4S - can anyone recommend a case that doesn't bubble your screen protector?
I like those flip cases. A very quick eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BLACK-LEATHER-FLIP-CASE-COVER-FOR-APPLE-IPHONE-4S-4GS-SCREEN-PROTECTOR-/220868797836?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item336cce658c
My sister put a screen protector on hers & then fitted it into the case, after much battling. The side grips started to lift the screen protector.
Not good if i was going to get one as i wouldn't have a phone without a screen protector.
I don't have that issue with the 3GS, but that's maybe due to the rounded edges -vs- the box edges.0
