Its Like Banging My Head On a Brick Wall!!
Hi
I have "switched" to a fixed price tarrif for my gas and electricity until 2014 and I have had to threaten the company with OFGEM to get a direct debit forecast from November.
However, I still do not know what they will be charging me per unit for either gas or electricity.
I hold my hands up - I should have checked before I signed up for this Package, its not like me but I had a lot on at the time.
I have sent an email to them asking for the price per unit of energy.
If they do not give me this information in the next few days I will happily go to OFGEM with this complaint.
Does anyone know anywhere else I can go after OFGEM if they do not tell me this information?

Just go to www.energyhelpline.com and enter your details - just estimate your consumption in kWh.
It will then give your cost and a comparison with other tariffs. On your tariff(top left of screen) you can find out prices and all details of your tariff.0 -
I wonder why my energy company hasnt told me though?0
-
How did you then select the best tariff without knowing what they would be charging you?
A comp site gives you this info in under a minute. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Instead of banging your head against a brick wall, why don't you pick up the phone, call your supplier and say 'Hello, could you tell me the rates for the tariff I'm on please'?0
-
Or look up the rate online on the supplier's website? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
Or look at the paperwork and emails which came during the switching process, which state the tariff.
Or look on the bill? (when it comes, if it hasn't already).
Or start a complaints procedure with Ofgem - yep, that seems to be the easiest and quickest way of skinning the cat.0 -
Perhaps I am being thick but surely the supplier should automatically tell me the cost per unit. Have just received paperwork and no prices at all on paper - what i needed was the price from the supplier not some 3rd party - or has the world gone mad?
If I walked into a shop I wouldnt expect the shop next door to tell me the price of something in the first shop.
I switched automatically as a safeguard because prices keep going up not down and it is a fixed tarrif for 2 whole years and was only open for a short time - just following Martins advice as I saw it and he gives excellent advice I must say.
All I know is that prices are rising as percentages and a percentage figure doesnt tell you the price, at least that is what I was taught at school and life has taught me to get paper copies of most things especially prices.
I will definitely go to Ofgem if I am not told the price by my suppllier in 2 days and I will let them know it too - I had to do that to get the direct debit forecast!!0 -

Just been onto suppliers website and my deal is not on there. Looked at another product and no prices on that one either.
Tried phoning and I cant get through to a person, that is why I am contacting them through their complaints proceedure so I can print off replies and scan them as an electronic copy.

Thankyou for that link - have contacted them so hopefully they will have more clout. If not then its the OFGEM.0 -
Suggest you read Standard Licence Condition (SLC) 22 which covers this. It is defined as "reasonable time" but it clearly states the charges must be detailed so something sounds wrong in your case and it makes me wonder if its a miss sale in that the rates quoted can't be offered (i.e. a dodgy sales agent for a commission) but I would expect they would give a alternative rate.
See the supplier .PDF's in this link to Ofgem's site.
http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/Licensing/Work/Pages/licence-conditions-consolidated.aspx
You can raise a complaint to your supplier and refer it to the ombudsman at the sooner of 8 weeks or deadlock.
Ofgem won't help an individual complaint but their Consumer Affairs Team may investigate a breach in conditions.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
