Which files? Avast not being able to scan them doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad files. It may be a password protected archive for example.
Yes they were password protected
I discovered that Malware was expired so I downloaded a new version - scanned - all clear and then ran Avast again - all clear
Will monitor the laptop over next few days0
