I was, of course, referring to the OP which included: 'Its just a method of getting the gullible and desperate to sign up to participate in an "online certification curriculum" run by a company called L'Amie'.

Not a big organisation - same number for fax and phone and a hotmail email address.
Mind you 100% required for all exams but unlimited tries?
And why is it the first post from ShouldIQuit who reckons to have got a job with the qualification?0 -
hotmail address... never a good sign. too good to be true as the saying goes! shame... 30k for an easy job ... everyone would be signing up!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0

So lets get this straight, you;re getting paid £30k to do data entry.ShouldIQuit wrote: »I had to go and do some online certificate ..... I had to get 100% on all the tests but I could do them as many times as I wanted.
That is not a certification, its a joke. I could run a certification in brain surgery on a multiple try test, passing it doesn't mean your a brain surgeon though.ShouldIQuit wrote: »They gave me a 'company car'
Data entry people don't need a company car, especially when you get hit big time on tax for company car ownership.ShouldIQuit wrote: »The good news is that they have reimbursed my certification expenses and I have a company card for work related petrol purchases.
You put money up front for an online test, and again why do you need a company car for data entryShouldIQuit wrote: »The work on the whole is quite easy.
£30k for easy data entry work. You must be getting more than your manager the way IT jobs are at the moment.0 -
The first post was by ohdearme by the looks of things.
I thought the job was simple data entry when I applied but apparently it was a rep job in the guise of a data entry job. The only data entry I'm doing is inputting client data. By the time I'd done the 'certificate' and everything I thought I might as well give it go. I would normally get involved in rep jobs but I'd already forked out money to sit the online test and didn't really have much choice other than suck it and see. I don't drive far but enough to warrant a vehicle, although I'm not so sure the crappy metro I got gives such a good impression.
As regards the brain surgeon test I think I would agree with your sentiments but one thing is for sure - by force of doing the same test over and over again until I got 100% I learnt an awful lot about the data protection act that I didn't know before. Not sure how relevant it is to the work I'm doing though.
Anyway, whether I actually get paid or not remains to be seen. I'm not very good at reading small print in contracts but there's probably something in there that means I won't get paid if I don't hit the sales targets.0 -
Are you being classified as self-employed?0
-
I wouldn't have touched it with a barge-pole, but I hope it works out ok for you. If its a rep job I'd read ALL the contract with a fine-tooth comb to see if you must meet targets etc. before you get paid.
To me it rings of a scam as you should never have to pay an employer to take you on, and you may have to cut your losses at some stage.
How much did you actually pay to take the test, and when are you meant to get that money back?0 -
Hi, I'm one of the gulible's that signed up to Lamie, even worse though my pc froze whilst making the transaction through paypal, I tried again and when checking the account two amounts of £100 where taken, Paypal dont want to know, I've emailed continually to Lamie for a refund and apart from an email with their bank details, nothing. Of course the website gives no contact information apart from email, took the details from little voice, number is duff so have sent a letter, I've also received no training material, small claims court next one thinks, might as well throw more good money away.0

whilst making the transaction through paypal
If you paid using your credit card (which you should ALWAYS do when using paypal) then do a chargeback through them.

I was told that I could put in an expenses claim at the end of the first month to redeem my expenses for certification. I paid 100 quid and was awarded a life times enrolment to the lamie online school where, I am told, I can do other certificates as well in things like Windows admin and other stuff that completely doesn't interest me in any way (the data entry certificate was hard enough). I had a word with the boss when I started and explained that after forking out for the certification I was virtually penniless and he made an exception and gave me the money there and then on the spot.
I don't know who the owner of lamie is or these other websites but my boss is called David Clarke and I plucked up the courage to have a chat with him about this today. He told me that the only reason he chose lamie certificates over and above other data entry certificates was because he gets all his IT services from Lamie (he said something about web services and security, didn't really understand what he was going on about) and that he liked the idea of 100% pass mark. To be honest, I thought the 100% pass mark was a load of rubbish when I signed up, but when I had done the test umpteen times I realised that repeating the test was making me actually learn all this mind numbingly boring stuff about the data protection act that I wouldn't normally have learnt easily.
Regards payment via paypal. I had the same problem. I got an email from Lamie explaining they were having problems with paypal and advising making payment directly into their bank account. Lamie were very slow at responding to emails but after about a month of emailing them and waiting for replies I finally got enrolled and got started with the course. There were no course materials. Everything was done by email and online tests and tasks and stuff. I had to go away and read the data protection act at some government website and write a 9000 word essay on it as my first task. Then I had to do shed load of multiple choice tests. It was gruelling. But I eventually passed it.0
