  • A short update to my earlier posts on on using joemobile in France.

    I am still using joemobile for about four months a year on a Huawei Mifi device and getting about 5mb/s download speed in a mountain location. 4G speeds are available in large towns. The 20euro option is best for data giving 3Gb a month which can be extended to 7Gb for an extra 10 euros. The 20 euro option also gives unlimited landline calls to Europe and both mobiles and landlines in the United States and Canada.

    It is without contract so ideal for those shorter trips. I do have some joemobile simcard packs available which contain a combi sim. I have sent out to many through this forum, just pm me with a postal name and address if you would like a pack and instructions in english if you need them.

    Something else you amy want to consider is Three Mobile. I have a pay monthly contract with them which gives calls and data in France within my allowance under their Feel at home benefit. Trips are limited to one month and tethering is withrawn whilst abroad.
    Three also have a pay monthly mobile broadband contract.

    I still use my joemobile sim on all my visits to France but supplemented by using Three Mobile on my phone.

    Virgin Mobile in France have taken over SFR and Joemobile. Virgin are now consolidating all the various networks into the Virgin brand and as a consequence JoeMobile will close down on the 15 June 2015.

    Virgin are recommending users switch to their own Virgin sim only contracts unfortunately they are not similar to Joemobile, do not have an online cockpit and only accept French bank cards.

    A good knowledge source of French Sim Only cards can be found on a Wikia page which you will need to Google;

    prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/France

    For those of you in the UK Three Mobile offers Sim only for both phones and MIFI that include France within their 'Feel at Home service.' Whilst you will get 4G in the UK with these you will only get 3G services outside of the UK.

    In fact, it's the total opposite. Numericable-SFR has taken over Virgin Mobile France.

    To be perfectly correct (I think) is that Virgin Mobile France was the parent company of Joemobile . Virgin Mobile mobile was taken over by Numericable owner Altice along with SFR to become as you say Numericable SFR,

    The important issue for me is to give readers of this blog a little help on what sims are available, which unfortunately have now become more limited.

    Regards
