Valgrays is a Collie rescue in Surrey too. I think theres either an lurcher or greyhound rescue based in Wraysbury, sorry I'm on my phone so struggling to post links!

Another one, South East Dog Rescue. Other side of Surrey though. Lea Valley Dog Rescue is one I heard of recently, in NE London but home around the area.
You could browse Dogsblog as well, many rescues post on it, its a picture blog more than a discussion forum

Thanks krlr, the Battersea one at Windsor was on my list, but I was trying the nearest ones first, there is a Border collie one nearby I haven't visited yet.

Visited the 1st and Pine Ridge on this list yesterday.

Becoming a fosterer or walker seems to be a good idea as Fosterdog suggests, if any of these places offer that.

I get the feeling you would really like a lab or lab cross. I would contact lab rescue and speak to them. It may be they have a dog still with an owner waiting for a home.

Id also try dogpages forum. Battersea could be good too - I have found they can be flexible.

No one is an ideal owner - I do home checks andsometimes have to put my personal ideas of some things to the side when I check out a home for a dog. As long as the dog is going to be truly loved, cared for and happy/safe then I will bend rules slightly.

Oh dear, some lovely dogs on the above rescue all desperate for homes of their own. Please check them out

The Libby one looks quite good, since I don't have any other children or other dogs. She is probably like the 2yr old lab I used to take care of who was trying to be dominant with the older dog.

Oh dear, I shouldn't have looked at ProDogs Direct as there were a few I would have chosen! Don't think my two hounds would be too thrilled.......and seriously I don't have the room.
I seem to think that PDD is a spin off from the charity PRO Dogs which sadly folded about 8 years ago.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
