not happy with upgraded phone quality
I'm on the 3 network on the one plan. Last Saturday 13th October was my earliest upgrade date so I decided to get a new handset. I upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a galaxy s3. I'm not sure I like it yet but that isn't the problem. On Wednesday morning I had my new phone; screen down on my desk at work, I noticed a small spiderweb like crack in the finish, on closer inspection I found another. They look like something has struck the finish and the cracks have radiated out around the impact point. They are not major cracks or anything, they haven't even fatigued the plastic let alone cracked it, it's just in the finish, but since I had the phone out of it's box for only 3 days and hadn't banged or dropped it I don't understand how it happened, could they have been present fresh out of the box? I know it wasn't me, I was being puposly careful with my new toy, i had my iPhone 4 for almost 2 years and there isn't a scratch on it! If i had done something to cause these cracks I could accept it or if the phone was a few months old but i'm disappointed they are there so fast.
So my question is, do I have the right to get a replacement?

After 3 days? No chance I think. You could have had the right if you noticed this after opening the box, but even in this case it wouldn't be easy.0

Basically.... no , the finish on the S3 and the new iphone 5 definately seem more susceptable to scratching, marking etc than previous models.0 -
There are some issues with the S3 and cracking... I would contact Samsung and 3.
A quick search will show lots of complaints.
Its the reason I decided against getting one.0 -
As I said previously the new iphone 5 isn't much better and is definately not as good as the iphone 4 as far as the back cover is concerned.0

They are not scratches, they look like impact marks but as i said i have neither dropped or banged the phone. I have run my finger over them and there is no ridge or bump, it's like the marks are in the finish rather than done afterwards.
I figured I had 14 days (or at least 7 days) to return it sice when I first got the iPhone I had 14 days then to take it back. I know I can take it back if I'm not happy with how it works etc as they replaced my iphone one week after i got that as it was not functioning properly. but I just really wondered if instead of a straight return or replacement with a different model for a functionality issue, do you not think they would replace with the same model for a cosmetic flaw inside the return period?
Thanks for you answers so far, I might go into store tomorrow and see what they say.0 -

Do you actually have one? Or basing your "facts" on Internet gossip?
I've had and used my iphone 5 for a few days short of a month now, with no case, carried in my pocket and put down on hard surfaces, and the phone is still pristine. The aluminium is quite a bit hardier than some are making out.====0 -
A few lads at work have them and definately think the exterior is not as durable as the iphone 4 . So this is based on friends actual experience and not internet gossip.0

Your friends must work with acid or similar. From my personal experience, and that of least 10 other people I know with them, they are pretty hardy and only really susceptible to abuse.
Most have been using them without any form of case (a few phones arrived with factory marks, so there is a QC issue) and so far they are all holding up well.
My iphone 4 scuffed up on the steel band quite easily, something I haven't noticed yet on the 5.====0
