Freecycle........

I have recently found out about this excellent money saving scheme. You simply complete the free registration form and where you live. It is basically a swap shop for those things that are too good to go on the local land fill site but might be useful to someone. You email what you want to get rid of and recieve replies and then they come and collect it! or you look out for something you need or want and then you go and pick it up if someone has it too get rid of! This is a national scheme but is broken down into local areas, and if its too far out then you don't reply! you need http://freecycle.org/

Yes freecycle is brilliant
it used to be - it has rather become swamped with uber scroungers
I'm thinking of giving it a miss and selling stuff in Loot or local papers insteadHate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -

I bet that many of the people who collect the stuff that *is* offered do not actually want it and take it down to the car boot at the weekend. Also, my bet is that whenever something you really would want turns up, that your chance of getting it is nil as the offerer is flooded with begging requests for the item.
I have a little fridge I want to get rid of and I would rather it goes to someone deserving of a fridge (maybe a single mother etc etc), not some layabout scrot who wants their fiver out of the deal at the car boot.0 -
Aye there's another thread on here somewhere where quite a few of us are disgruntled with Freecycle.
That said I posted a wanted a few dyas back for a clothes airer and within 3 hours or so had 2 offers and I collected one tonight and it was just 7 mins drive from my flat.
That's what I feel it should be about - low value item that someone no longer has a need for . which someone else can make really good use of and a short journey to collect.
You want a laptop - get yourself to comet or PC world  :mad:I tend to agree. It just seems full of - Wanted: Laptop, Wanted: Playstation 2 console etc etc. I tried to post a jokey wanted asking for any unwanted private jets or yachts (to try make people realise they are expecting too much) but the admins cancelled my message

Try ringing your local council, they may have a scheme running. I rang my council's general enquiries line and they came to pick up some massive furniture and sell it dirt cheap to people in poverty. It's a fantastic scheme, really useful.
SO agree with the wanted: laptop stuff, that gets ridiculous. Wish tehy'd get banned!0 -
I have started to use Freecycle recently, to dispose of low value items for a relative who is emigrating. The same freecycle enabled her to get a stand-in TV to replace a broken one (why buy even a used one if emigrating in some months time?).
Brilliant, so let's not get too cynical!0 -
Groups tend to go through "phases" as they grow.
One of those phases is indeed "gimme gimme gimme". It tends to be self limiting. Even if you see lots of "silly" wanted's - the vast majority of people do exactly what you or I do - <sigh> <laugh> or <swear> and then move on to the next one. So they give up.
So don't give up on your local group - it'll settle down in timeHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. My freecycle group is swapping touring caravans and cars. It is quite something. If I had words to make a day for you,
I'd sing you a morning golden and new.
I would make this day last for all time,
Give you a night deep with moonshine.0 -
