RBS Bank Account

Hi,

I have been having problems opening a bank account due to not on voters role and old debt.

I called RBS today and they said everything went through ok and if i go in branch and ask them to print it off tomorrow with ID i will get my sort code and account number.

After failing with Co-op etc I am thinking it is too good to be true and don't want to build my hopes up. He said i have passed the credit check etc but also said i was eligable for a mastercard which i refused and i am sure i was not eligble.

I hope it has been approved and it is just a basic card but anyone aware if it will be approved or will there be further checks?

Thanks

Never a good sign when the bank asks for ID to take to branch IMO and also heard some horror stories where people even get their debit cards and final checks declined an account.
Normally later AVU checks declined people.

Ah that would not be good :( It was either take my Id in or send it in by post. When i went to bank to get forms to fill in she said she cant give me them without the ID as it has my sort code and account number on it.

Surely if they have produced that i have a chance.?

Read the forums mate they call it the dreaded AVU account verification unit where most pass the normal checks then at the end these guys go over it then the letter arrives or your online banking all of sudden gets blocked.

If you have a bad credit history I don't hold much hope TBH unless its different for a basic account.

He told you you had passed the credit check - so if I were you, I would work from the assumption that you passed the credit check.

He offered you a Mastercard- - why do you think you aren't eligible if you had the offer? Fair enough if you turned it down because you don't want a credit card, but they still offered you one.

Ignore the scaremongering by BugsyBrowne and do as you have been asked to do - go into branch with 2 forms of ID (picture card ID and a utility bill to prove your address). Try not to be nervous - you have been told you got your account and that they "will print it off" (whatever that may mean) in Branch. Keep the faith, you'll be alright!

Innovate maybe you should read other threads as well and maybe then you'd post facts rather then your imaginary ideas & gibberish that seems to evolve from your posts.

I have been reading posts, including yours. That's why I felt some encouragement for the OP was in order, as opposed to your doomsday scenario.

EDIT: PS. can't make sense of the link you posted, it just gives me a list of Bon Jovi videos. Presumably this is, for you, once more "imaginary ideas & gibberish evolving from my posts"........

If you apply online it asks for either your passport or driving license details to confirm your ID without having to go in branch plus a debit or credit card to confirm your address.

I recently opened a NatWest account and have an excellent credit record. The online application process asked for my passport number, then at the end asked me to take some ID into a branch - took my old-style paper driving license in and was given my account number.

Not sure why i had to do this, every other application I have made online has been able to verify my identity without further ado. Must be RBS, lol!
