Best Fibre Optic Broadband

Options
Hi,

First post on MSE. I was wondering if anyone could help me choose a good fibre optic broadband provider. I'm looking for around a 30Mb download speed, since we'll be using both internet browsing and Netflicks.

Thanks in advance

From my personal experience and from the many comments of others on this, and other, websites most ISPs are quite good - UNTIL things start going awry, then they just seem to be incapable of resolving even the simplest problem. When I say "incapable" I really mean that they just can't be bothered to even try !

When you get to this stage all you can really do is move - again...............
  • I would say for now its Virgin media

You could try Virgin Media (and before anyone starts to mock, I've not had any problem with them, that's why I'm saying that you could try them as their fibre optic speeds are consistent.) Also the best thing is even though virgin media have a download thing in place where if you download a certain amount of data they cap your speed to half. For example if you have 30mb internet, half of 30 is 15mb but for me I've hardly noticed the cap being put in place whilst I'm downloading large amount of data as it's always a fast, reliable connection.

You could try using BT's service but their prices are ridiculous the last time I checked.

It depends what is available in your area. Start with a exchange search on https://www.samknows,com
Essentially, your options are either VM cable service (if available) or otherwise BT Infinity or a BT reseller such as Plusnet. The speed you'll get is dependent on what either of these can give you, use the speed testers on each website.

My Virgin "60Mb" connection gives me about 21 Mb, according to one of the speed checkers.

I can recommend Sky's Fibre. I have had no issues whatsoever and the speed is very consistent (I regularly max out my connection when downloading).
