I havent seen any prepays removed for smarts yet, nor have I heard anything on the grapevine. The sooner the better they modernise the easiest fiddled meter going, the better. Nearly all bypasses I find now are electric prepays.best of luck to the meter fitters on a lot of prepays, no one has set foot in their houses in seven years to inspect the meters. I can see a lot of warrants being taken out to change them to a difficult to fiddle smart meter
Ive been in a few area s where National Grid have been replacing the pipes right up to the meters, a lot have been getting free outside boxes fitted

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

In my last house i asked for an outside box, i thought they'd be keen 'cos i was never in for the reader. But when they told me how much i changed my mind.

  • Sailorsam, if National grid find the pipes to your meter at risk they will put the meter outside free of charge.I have seen several area s lately where they have been doing this work

BG are digging the road up outside at the moment to fit new pipes and i had letter to say they'd need access to the house to perhaps do the house pipes and meter but they knocked a couple of days ago and don't think that's part of the work.
I thought i'd read we were all due to change in the next couple of years.

The programme runs for some years yet and its not even clear whether current meter settings will be supported. Given the standard for the meters is due to be released it wouldn't be guaranteed that any supplier is fitting the right standard...despite what some have said on this board from their general press releases.

    Thank you SwanJon :)

I note the Moneysupermarket item is very recent (dated 27 Sept 2012) and may not be effective until 01-Nov-2012, when the Ofgem rules apply.

It also, as you say, states there is no charge to pay on that Eon link.

Confusingly, on that same Eon page, there is a link to a PPM booklet
    https://www.eonenergy.com/~/media/PDFs/General-PDFs/COPprepaymentJune2012.pdf

By the file name, that appears to be from June 2012, so perhaps it was a very recent change and they've not updated that booklet yet?

    Hiya gang,

    Just to clarify this point.

We no longer charge to remove pre-payment meters, we now do this free of charge. :D

We may ask to do a credit check, but it all depends on the individual account.

    Cheers
