Carphone closing in on Pipex

Carphone Warehouse appears to be the front runner in the acquisition of broadband provider, Pipex, after all the other potential bidders are reported to have dropped out.

Carphone is reported to have tabled 'a low ball offer' given that it is reckoned to be the only real bidder left.

If Carphone does acquire Pipex, it would be an interesting twist after Pipex bought Phones 4u's broadband business, Homecall last year.

Carphone would be adding Pipex' 600,000 customers to its base of 2,725,000. Carphone took on 1.5 million broadband customers when it bought AOL UK for £370m last year.

Separately, Carphone is also part of a consortium led by Channel 4 pitching for the second digital radio multiplex. Carphone's role appears to be working with handset manufacturers to integrate digital radio into ne
w mobile phones.

Not sure about this as you only mention Pipex when there is Nidram and Freedom2Surf involved as well.
