will Windows 8 require more powerful computer than Windows 7?

Windows 8 is going to be released soon and I'm wondering if it will be worth installing it on my PC, which is a Core2Duo 2.7GHz with 4GB RAM

Also how much is it going to cost?

    Why do you want it?
I'd at least wait until SP1 is released for it, to iron out the inevitable [STRIKE]features [/STRIKE]bugs it will come with.
You can pre-order it for about £50 if you can't wait.

Is that not a bit of out-dated advice? I mean, back in the days of XP that was the case but that was 10 years ago

Yes, and I'm not sure SP1 really improved it much. XP was bad until SP1, Vista worked ok from the beginning, it was just a bit annoying. And with Windows 7 they fixed it all pretty well.

It doesn't quite work that way with W8 - what you'd think of as SP1 has already been released to OEMs.

Vista was a disaster that most of us could not wait to get rid of.

Yes, the service packs did not really change that did they. It was just badly thought out from its foundations.

worth installing - I doubt it, iterations of mature operating systems add little essential functionality nowadays just more bloat, more gimmicks (touch), and Microsoft have a habit of releasing a turkey UI followed by a good one - change for changes (and profits) sake.

W7 was a good one, but apart from the size difference, it's not that different to XP
