My car is black and a few years old, so the colour is a bit faded.

Are you using repairers arranged by the insurers? If so, in my experience they tend to save money by using the cheapest repairers they can find (who tend to be very shoddy).

Some years ago when my then 3 or 4 years old 206 got damaged by an evil BMW, the repairer arranged by my insurer (LV) turned out to be a Rolls Royce specialist :p. They did a perfect job on the panel repair and respray...

I really hope they don't. Doing any more work than required to return the car to it's pre-accident condition costs all of us in increased premiums.

It's bad enough that body shops already rediculously overcharge to the point that it's not practical to use them unless your insurance company is paying for it.

They will repair just the damaged panel. Though you may be able to offer some extra cash to re-spray the whole car.

Got our car back a few weeks ago (after the missus pranged it), and they resprayed the bonnet, bumper and blended the wings in. They did a great job (I used to spray cars for a hobby), and if it is dry this weekend, then I will be out there for a couple of hours making the rest look as good.

When my black car got hit, I paid to have the rest of the car resprayed as well as the damaged panels. I didn't want any difference whatsoever.

unless the car was framed (by this i mean all panels removed engine removed window glass removed), then yes you will have a difference in colour, you cant match new paint to factory door jams and interior panels. so you will have a difference in colour somehwere.

The car was completely taken apart and resprayed, yes.
