How do I get the smell of sweat out of clothes!

I have a very fine knit jumper (guess 1ply) jumper with a buckle type thing at the collar, but when ever I wear it, within a few hours I get a 'beer sweat' type smell from the underarms.
Normal washing hasnt shifted it & I cant soak it cos of the metal buckle, but I will have to bin it if I cant get rid of the pong:eek:
its not the 'wool' - its not a new jumper & has only happened the last 3 or so times I've worn it.- since I tried & rejected a different anti-perspirant (didnt work for me as you might guess)
Any ideas?I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Hi. Cant you take off the buckle to wash it and then put it back on again?0

You could try spraying a mix of white vinegar and water under the arms of the top - let it dry in the open air.The smell of vinegar will disappear."This site is addictive!"

Or try and soak the armhole bits but leave the buckle out of the water if the buckle cant be removed?Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

Have heard that soda crystals are good for this, add some to your normal wash.0

Unfortunately it doesn't come off but I will try both the vinegar & Soda crystal tips (not at the same time lol) - to be honest, smelling of vinegar would be an improvement (giggle)I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
I'm sure there will be someone here with an answer! Before anyone says 'try washing it' here's the problem. I have some shirts which are always washed at the highest temp in the machine (95 degrees I think). When they come out of the machine and dryer and are ironed they smell like new. After they have been worn for about 15 mins the 'old' sweat smell comes back. Deodorant/Antiperspirant is always used and its not the body that is in the shirt that smells but the shirt itstelf (if you see what I mean!) Any ideas? I don't want to have to throw them out as they are good quality shirts and they aren't that old.:hello:0

Hi,
Welcome to the forum, something similar was asked before and Elona said "You could try spraying a mix of white vinegar and water under the arms of the top - let it dry in the open air.The smell of vinegar will disappear."
Hope this helpsYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
this is what i've done in the past......make a paste of bicarb and water, about 50/50, and work it into the armpits with an old clean paintbrush. leave it on for a few hours, then wash as normal
hopefully this should sort it for you0
