You will notice all modern washing machines only have a cold water supply. Quite how this insanity is allowed, I don't know, but the manufacturers also seem to be restricted in only being allowed to make machines that go up to 60 celsius max. Some of them can't even do that!

My machine which is less than a year old does a non-eco 90° wash - with a really long pre wash function as part of the deal. I think it lasts something like 3 hours :rotfl: And it's a cold water feed.

I wash everything on 30 or 40° and it's great to me, much better than my old hot/cold feed washing machine.

If you wash on a cool cycle or low temp, the bacteria are not killed...

Put white vinegar, (one measure), into the fabric softner drawer, no softner). Wash as normal they'll be fine.;)

Once a month run your machine on a 'clean' cycle, high temp with vinegar in the drawer as before, but add a scoop of washing soda in the powder drawer.

This cleans the machine and the waste pipe so it doesn't smell.:D

I rub under the arms and along shirt collars if needed with a little neat stardrops before putting in a 30degree wash and it works perfectly.

    Hi wimbledonpark,

As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to another which has lots of ideas for removing the underarm smell from clothes.

My son has given me a few of his T-Shirt to wash as his washing machine is not working, but he sweats terribly and says he just can't get the smell out from the arms. Is there any way i can get rid of it?
He told me he's actually thrown a few Ts out because they smell so bad:eek:.

    Thanks:D

I'd be interested in that too as I've found that after a while,my work shirts tend to smell terribly no matter how often I wash them,so I just order new ones from stores.

Vinegar - spray the smelly bits with vinegar and wash as usual.

Put borax in the wash with the ordinary powder and then add vinegar to the final rinse. The acetic acide in the vinegar should kill it off. Also if you hang the shirts out on the line in direct sunlight the UVA from the sun will kill off any bacteria that is causing the smell.

Its the bacteria that causes the stink! You can also rub a fresh lemon onto the T shirt and leave for a few minutes before washing as the lemon has antibacterial properties as well.

Buy some of this stuff below, I bought some recently from Pets at Home and I think it was £7.99 but it DOES work.

If it can get rid of the smell of cat pee (someones cat keeps squirting on my patio pots) it will get rid of anything.

Please give it a try, you will be amazed how it will take away the smell.

It doesn't show this bottle on their site but you will find it instore (it used to be in a white bottle but they have changed the colour and the smell is nicer).

I put some into an empty spray bottle and just give things a good squirt, the smell goes almost immediately.

By the way, I have tested this on one of my daughter's school shirts (she has only just started using deo and her aim wasn't brilliant!), the smell vanished straight away.

I can not rec this product enough, it is fantanstic.

I won't be without it now.

    ;)
