in Water bills
Hi
I've got someone from South East Water coming round today to "prove" my water meter, I live in a block of 12 flats, and I rent.
When we moved in the chap who did the initial inspection and read the meters didnt know where the water meter was and said the agency would instruct the water board to come and read it for us.
We left it to them and then we started getting billed quarterly.
Having never paid for water before I didn't know how much was an average amount to pay so I happily paid my bills no questions asked as the water board read the meter for us.
What happens if they have been reading the wrong meter?

they will recalculate bills and give you back any overpayments, if you have been underpaying they may ask for it or just write it off0 -
thanks, it looks like we have been under paying as the other flat is a single person and there are 2 of us.
still waiting for it all to be updated, hoping i'll get a payment plan if i have to pay it back.0 -
Post on here what solution the water company propose.0

so I got a letter from South East Water today, from june 2010 to October 2012 I was being charged for the wrong water, which in this case meant that I had under paid by £86 (which was less than I expected for a 2 year period).
They admitted that this was their error and they would waive the charge and they will from the inspection in October will start charging me for the right water.
Apparently when the flats were due to be converted all the pipes were put in and ran out to the cover outside (where all the stop cocks are) and were numbered by plot, south east water then came out and connected them to the mains.
Once connected the flats were converted and numbered however the numbers of the flats did not match the plot number hence being charged for the wrong water.
Luckily our bill will only go up by about £10 a quarter so thats not bad.0
