I took out a GreenFlag breakdown policy yesterday and on receiving the confirmation email - I see that I selected to pay by CONTINUOUS PAYMENT - ie Automatic renewal
Which I did not
Anyone else noticed this ?
Surely Wrong ?

Go through the process again and I think you will see that this is there by default.
They do this "just incase" you forget to renew and you need their services in the interim period that the cover has ceased, so you have continuous cover.0 -
You are correct - so they say "Continuous payment authority selected - yes" as if we are given any option
I intend to complain about this.....0 -
Alot of companies do this. They rely on customers like you who don't read the t's & c's when they agree to something, and then in a years time get automatically renewed.
Complaining to them is a waste of time as they probably make alot of money out of it. Just make sure that the continuous renewal is turned off.
I am sure its the same with AA and RAC as they always send me a letter every year saying "Your new premium is ...., this will renew automatically on this date"
On an unrelated matter Greenflag are rubbish. I would never use them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thank you for that
The problem is that, with greenflag - there is no "tick box/acceptance option" - no mention is made of any continuous payment at all - until you receive the email with policy details on it...
I have been with green flag on several occassions in the past - having called them out once for a home start problem and I have no complaints at all about their service - they turned up in about 1/2 hour, sorted the car and left...0 -

What put me off them was there habit of using local contractors. When I was a naive young student I was with Green flag and had to call them out twice when I was miles from home. Once was in York and once was in Sheffield. Both times they "insisted" I had to buy a certain part to fix my car. 6 months later I had to go back to my local garage and both parts that had been put in were 2nd rusted parts that needed to be replaced again. It put me off Green Flag for life! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
That is how all of these companies operate - only AA and RAC have dedicated operatives - the rest all use contractors - hence the price difference ...0

Online
when you purchase the policy it states you agree to continuous authority for the collection of payments and if you do not want this to ring them.
Phone
They also state payment will be on continuous authority. And ask if this is ok.
I suggest,
Specsavers for glasses.
Hospital for an Hearing Aid,
And..... for the record, the majority of companies that accept Insurance premiums operate by the same method as this is too retain your business so that you are simple and do not shop around0 -

1. Why should they assume that everyone wants to continue year after year with the same service - they should give you a tick box to give you the option of not taking this up - perhaps even ticked by default - just remove to remove option
2. The fact that, on the email - it says that you have elected to pay by continuous payment is exactly what my problem is - IT IS TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BY THEN !!
3. You appear to be the short sighted one here !!
4. My hearing is fine, as is my sight - my speech is unfortunately lacking though (really) !!0 -
I have been with Greenflag, easy enough to cancel before renewal but annoying non the less.
And you do need to cancel, every year. My renewal price (even with no claim bonus discount!) was always more expensive than taking out a fresh policy!! and then with the fresh policy there is a decent cashback via a cashback site too.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0
