I have never had a problem with Coventry. The log in process is fairly quick requiring user ID, date of birth, password and three characters from my grid card.
Agree the login process is quick. If only they would make their Faster Payments just as quick, instead of taking the slow overnight route.
  • Would that be contrary to their ts & cs? Surely you setting up security and registering, for your (do you own her?) wife's account is a no no? :)

    Indeed so.
Quite often we hear of this sort of thing on MSE.

.........and quite often we also hear on MSE after some account/card fraud has taken place how the poster insists how they never gave out their security details to anyone, but the bank doesn't believe them. One can see the bank's point of view.

Hint, if you are going to give out your security details to trusted other halves.....don't post about it on a public forum.

I may be wrong but I seem to remember the first letter of the password always has to be entered as upper case even if the first letter of the password you chose is lower case.
That's why the login fails to work even with the correct characters from the password entered.
This won't be noticed unless one of the characters requested is the 1st.

AS with the majority of posts, I have never had a problem.

As with all these systems the the biggest problem is usually the intelligent user entering the information. Once you learn to behave like a complete idiot and do exactly what you are told in the order you arte told to do it things will be fine. But if you insist on doing what you think is right you will be caught out.

One other possibility is the words you enter on the form you return to them being misinterpreted by the person who processed them at the other end. It may be obvious that its a letter "a" to you but does it look like a "p" to someone else?
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

It's always struck me as a bit odd that they only ever ask you for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or last character of your password. I don't think I've ever been asked for any of the other characters - or maybe that's just me?!

Can't quite believe that noh! But nor can I remember whether I have ever been asked for the first letter!

My only problem has been printing pdf statements using Opera browser which froze the screen and caused me to lose access as I couldn't logoff. Now I only use Firefox for Coventry BS - as well as for several others like First Direct which aren't fully compatible with Opera.

Never had a problem with Coventry or others with grid cards. I copy the grid into my encrypted file and destroy the letter, actually prefer the added security.... much rather have my money a bit safer with more complex password arrangements than a simple few characters which a hacker or key-logger could re-assemble after several log-ins.

Coventry got my date of birth wrong on their system so that was the reason I cannot access the internet banking. Thats been sorted now. Hopefully once my password has been updated I should be able to access my account.
  • I have same experience with Coventry B S. Am now on fourth password, but cannot log on. Grid Card not a problem. Perhaps they enter password incorrectly. Something wrong with their system ? Cannot see a solution. I know I enter correct info. I am at a loss and am considering leaving Coventry for a more user friendly society.
