Induction v ceramic hob

Will soon be getting my kitchen done and need to replace the old electric hob. Shall I have an induction or ceramic hob? I'll need new saucepans with the induction, so will cost more but would it be worth it. Any opinions please.

Go induction. I have just made the change and apart from initial fear of Star-ship touch control it is far better than ceramic.
Also, the touch control does not get dirty like the analogue knobs.
I tested my pans with a magnet and was suprised that they all have a magnetic sandwich in the base. Externally they are Stainless or Aluminium, but secret ferrous inserts make them OK for induction.0 -
Go for induction all the time.
Started off a few years back with one of those cheap single induction plates, which was never unused, so when kitchen was done, I forced the issue to have one fitted. Best hob ever had, is more controllable than a gas hob, as you don't have the built in heat from the pot stands like on gas and the 10 minute wait like a normal electric hob to cool down.
If you can forget about the strange noise when you switch it on and the fan going after youswitch it off, then you are fine. They are the only strange things about them.
You have to try the £10 note under the boiling pan trick, does amaze people!
BTW above poster is right, just test a pan you have with a magnet, if it sticks, it will work fine. Sometimes some of the cheaper pans out there work ok. I bought a roaster for the xmas turkey from tesco, which was magnetic and works ok to make gravy. Was the cheapest one they had and is still going strong.0 -
We have used induction for the last 4 yrs and its been brilliant. Very clean for a start, just wipe over the area. Instant heat as well. They were dearer at the time to buy but i suspect theres not much between them nowadays.
We have the Neff with 5 heating areas and love it0 -

Any particular recommendations as to which induction hob to go for please.
Just the two of us in the house all day.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Just starting with an induction hob and so far so good
Yes I had to buy some new pans - the magnetic will help find if yours ok
I also got a trivet for beside the hob and its a lifesaver as I get used to the hob. Any worries and I just lift the pan aside till I get to grips with the controls again. Saying that I've used it about 5 times so far but will no doubt get used to it0 -

When looking around for ours, we were told there was only really two manufacturers of the glass so no one was better the another. Just depends on what bells and whistles and where you want the heating rings to be.0 -
I changed from ceramic to an induction hob in Jan and it is so much better. I had to have all new pans, which I bought from Lakeland.0

Induction without a doubt. They are a clean, fast, safe and very efficient way to cook.
Get a good quality set of pans. The efficiency of your hob to an extent depends on the pans.
