HELP! - Manually set up Sky Broadband

A friend of mine has just got Sky Broadband but when he runs the install disk, it keeps asking to load IE7. Unfortunately, he does not have a genuine copy of windows XP and it keeps failing on the validation.

Does anyone know how to install Sky Broadband manually without upgrading to IE7? He wants to use Firefox as his browser and therefore loading IE7 is a waste of time for him.

Any help much appreciated.

    https://www.ebuyer.com sell genuine copies..

    You shouldn't have to install anything apart from the router, http://192.168.0.1 admin sky

    Hi.Sky broadband is not compatible with firefox or thunderbird (and trust me you will need thunderbirds international rescue if you try to install sky b.b.).and nor is I.E.7 as i found out from sky after spending my easter holidays trying to get my internet on.(B_ _ _ _ _ _s.No mention of these issues when ordering .Technichians told me I.E.7 is no good ,i need I.E.6???????.Last words ,if you fancy a challenge and go for this product ask as many question as you need to before committing.Good luck to all .WAZZ.

    2 points:

    1 - get a proper copy of XP! Not only does it keep things legal, it saves a lot of hassle with updates and security;

    2 - as Albatross stated, you don't actually need to install any software. I had by Sky BB working in 5 minutes out of the box. Just connect the microfilter and 'phone cable to the modem, connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the PC, and change your internet options to use a network connection instead of dial-up. For instructions on setting up your email for Outlook, check the help files on the Sky disc.

    Also, IE7 is fine with SkyBB, and (I have just checked this!) so is Firefox. As stated above, there is no need to install anything, its purely hardware!

    P.S. - Wayyny, what were your problems with it? Sounds like it could be a bigger issue than the Sky setup!

    The installation disk does not actually set up sky BB, as its all in the router .( connecting the right leads is enough) .. the disk is more of a walk thro' guide and extra software
