Advice needed on boilers/heating

I hope someone out there can help me with advice before I make myself look like a stupid blond in front of a tradesman.
We currently have a conventional boiler which needs replacing. It is a Mexico slim line and is positioned rather unfortunately in the centre of the kitchen. The flue goes through the middle of the house. In addition we have an immersion heater which we never use . I am considering getting a condensing boiler. Am I right to think that I could have the old boiler, flue and immersion heater and tank removed. If this is possible it would enable us to expand our very small bathroom. If anyone could give me any tips on getting quotes, questions to ask, likely costs etc it would be much appreciated. I am in the derby area if anyone has any recommendations.
Thanks in advance.
