    That would explain it. Still amazed that they offered the advice they did though!

    They probably just copied and pasted the response, and then edited it slightly.

    However, assuming this is not the case, if the car failed on a corrossion issue this year, but passed less than 12 months ago, it must have been close to failure then - cars don't rust that quickly.
    Were there any advisories concerning corrosion on the MOT from last year??

    Cars can rust that quickly. Especially with the very thin pressed steel that is often used these days.

    In the right settings, oxidation can occur in a matter of a few (2-3) days!
