Who Would You Recommend in this Situation?

I am looking into wireless broadband connection for my Nan. At the moment she has dial-up, her rental is through BT and her calls through Talk Talk (she doen't want to change her provider for her calls as most the people she phones are on Talk Talk which means the majority of her calls are free.

I am looking for a good provider at a reasonable price where she doesn't have to change her current calls/line rental options, and a good wireless router. She is not a huge internet user at the moment but I think that wireless broadband will make quite a lot of difference to her surfing habits.

Any help gratefully received.

what about talk talks wireless broadband?
She just needs to pay for the wirelsss set up, then broadband is freee if you have talk talk calls.

Sadly the area we live in doesn't qualify for free Talk Talk or Sky broadband and it looks like neither will be available for a while yet - it's a right pain!

I seriously wouldn't have recommened TT or SKY BB, heard quite a few bad things about them. I set my mum up on tiscali, 9.99 a month, we had a problem when she moved house, they couldnt get the new details right, but before that and since it was sorted she's had no problems and very very little downtime.

Well as Tiscali is the most complained about ISP, that sounds a bit rich! see ispreview for more info.

I didn't know that but don't doubt it for a second, the trouble we had when they couldn't get the details right was annoying. However the OP asked for a reasonable provider at a reasonable cost and apart from the trouble we had when my Mum moved we've had no other problems and it has been fast and reliable and I think 9.99 is very reasonable.

The truth is none of them are perfect, but I personally have read more complaints about SKY and Talktalk recently than I have about Tiscali.

Sorry for trying to help, good day to you.

Don't be sorry for trying to help - I appreciated your comments and, as it happens, my OH and I are with Tiscali (have been for about two years) and have had very good service from them. Just wondered if there was anything better.
  • Hi,

I see someone mentioned sky bb, I would recommend avoiding this at all costs, unfortunatley I am now tied in for 12 months with them, as they make it difficult to cancel, even if it is not working. It has taken me almost a month to get it almost working and it still drops several times a day. I know most people dont like them, but AOL can be alright, I was with them for 4 years on bb and regret the day i left for sky. hope this helps you a bit.

There will be problems for some with any ISP, people post their bad experiences with providers all the time. I recently changed from ntl freedom (now virgin media) to Sky bb after taking 3 months reading different reports and looking on forums, needless to say I was very nervous.

My experience is that I have had no problems with changing to sky, I was even connected two days early to the estimated date given. It has been a month now since I have been with Sky bb and had no problems with connection, router or speeds and everything is running smoothly - perhaps I am one of the lucky ones!;)

I wouldn't recommend TalkTalk broadband, its a nightmare. I've just signed up for Madasafish, and am waiting for it to be set up for me... Will let you know how it goes.
