I use Lovefilm and always just put them in the post box.
If they don't arrive you just notify them, who notify RM. No charges involved. In fact they don't even ask you to fill a claim form now like they used too.
The ones to watch is if you cancel
you need to get POP on those returns0 -

Funnily enough, my brother sent something special delivery on Monday and the PO "upsold" him first class recorded on top of the special delivery charge. They claimed that's the only way to guarantee next day. My brother - not being in the know - just paid it assuming it was right. It was only £1.50 extra but it irked me no end. The point of SD is that it is next day guaranteed.
I don't mind so much the upselling for, say speed of service (i.e. standard parcels may take longer) because there's actually some truth/benefit to it. But to outright lie or misinform customers in order to upsell is unforgivable.
Anyway, I posted a load of DVDs last week and obtained POP and wasn't told it doesn't count for DVDs. Assistant knew what they were because we chatted about them. These were just ebay sales though and most were very little value.
You're brother has got this wrong. I can't see anyone putting two methods of postage on a packet.
Anyone being told lies should formally complain.
You show a basic lack of knowledge in your other post.
60 million peices of post go through the system daily. Driving licenses should be fully tracked due to the hassle of replacing them, but the risk is only £20. There is no compensation if lost. Passports definitely should be sent SD, as they are arguably your most inportant ID.
Some home shopping returns are worth far more than £46. It's important to establish who accepts liability for loss.
Thousands of punters complain about not being sold the correct method of postage when something goes wrong.
Some staff do have a parrott fashion in regards to informing customers. You get that in every job. Being asked about every package would annoy me too. But some managers insist on it.
I would advise everyone to write to Post Office ltd. to let them know that the current "sell sell sell" is putting you off using them.0 -
That makes no sense
So the item had 2 barcodes and your POP shows both of these?
I don't know about the parcel but have since seen the receipt. It has 2 items on receipt - 1st class recorded for £1.55 and Special Delivery for £24.50, However the COP only has one tracking code on it.You're brother has got this wrong.
No, he hasn't. see above. He paid for both services as instructed. Obvously it was only sent SD.You show a basic lack of knowledge in your other post.
What other post? I've only posted once (now twice) in this thread."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

Those figures are very strange.
The SD charge is for something that weighs 10KG and the recorded delivery charge is for a letter weighing less that 100g.
I don't see how a PO assistant could have charged both for one item.0 -
The SD charge is for something that weighed about 3kg. This is the correct price because I checked it myself: http://www.royalmail.com/price-finder
And, as you say, the £1.55 is the price for a normal first class stamp for a letter.
They definitely did charge for both as I've seen the receipt. When I see him next I can photograph and post it up here for you if you want. I don't how or why or what they did beyond that as I wasn't actually there for the transaction, but I do know my brother only had the one item to post and that's what he got charged. It had to go SD due to cost of the item. He's not as savvy as me and just paid what the assistant said. It was only afterwards when he told me if was £26.05 that I queried it as I knew it should have been £24.50."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -
I wonder if the person in the Post Office somehow forgot to take the money from a previous customer and their till/computer still showed the RD charge of £1.55 as outstanding.
Then when your brother went to send their SD package, the assistant saw it as an opportunity to square their books. The SD charge is for something that weighed about 3kg.
This is something that has never made sense to me.
£24.50 is for any SD package that weighs between 2KG and 10KG which is one hell of a big range.
If your brother was able to split the contents of their shipment they could have sent one at 1KG and one at 2KG and the total cost would have been £17.30.
Two shipments of the same total weight for £7.20 less.0 -
Yes we talked about splitting it but it was a camera. He's had endless trouble selling it on his own ebay account - scam attempted no less that 4 times, then sold it but to a time waster who didn't want to pay what they bid. He was getting a bit fed up with it but I persuaded him to try one more time on my account as I suspected he was targetted because his feedback is low/new user. When we weighed it up, we worked out that if we removed the battery and manual we could send 2 parcels for £17.30... but then by the time we'd added the packaging (and it needed to be well packaged) it would take the larger one over the 2kg again so wasn't really worth it.
I never thought of that scenario though; you could have a point. From what my brother said the buy was a bit clueless (asking him whether he wanted to send it 24 or 48 hour service on SD) so maybe just a genuine mistake and I'm being harsh accusing him of upselling."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0
