I lost all four nuts once. I heard a noise stopped and checked by rocking the wheels, seemed ok. Carried on along a dual carriageway and heard something hitting the inside of the wing. Old Mini, no liners. Pulled over and all four nuts were missing. The wheel was still flat against the hub. No idea how it stayed there. Luckily the road was straight. I walked back and found three of the missing nuts. I had worked on the car the previous day and forgotten to tighten them. I haven't forgotten again.

why didnt you try a main dealer first

as this is a money saving forum!!

to be fair im unsure what a bolt would cost from Ford but it would certainly be more than a quid!! rekon you would have to buy a set of 4.

Modern scrappies you can phone them in advance and they have the part waiting for you.

Long gone are the days where you can climb on the cars yourself and remove the parts you need. A real shame as when I needed a part I'd learn how to put it on by taking it off the scrappy car, or sweet talking one of the staff into doing it for me :3

You haven't been to Cardiff scrappies then....Bill Way, K&L both have no problem with the old fashioned approach. But others in Cardiff do not, e.g. GMH but they are very expensive so you won't want to go there anyway.

I tend not to go to Cardiff if I can possibly avoid it.

I'm also less keen on doing my own car work these days, though obviously I would for wheelnuts!
  • This thread reminds me of the time a wheel fell off my Morris Minor. I was a mile from my workplace & while negotiating a 180 degree turn I heard a loud clonk.
Anyway the car continued on, and I reversed into place at the firms car park.
No sooner had I applied the handbrake when I heard a thud, the drivers side front wheel was in a horizontal position on the ground, king pins sheared.
Still it must have made an impression on my boss, he let me buy a firms ex salesmans car for 1/3 market value.:T
