Help please Npower & EDF nightmare

After switching to Npower from EDF in Oct 11 evrything over the next few months seemed to be fine direct debit for electric went out as normal - £38 PM as my tenancy came to an end i was planning on moving house and i received a bill from Npower for 968£ !!! which is just outrageous phoned npower and was passed around 20 poeple who all just kwpt saying phone back and give us another meter reading so over the next week kept calling them back to give these pointless meter readings and still didnt get anywhere, about 15 phone calls later and being passed from pillar to post finally a lady thought that the day and night readings might be wrong (mixed up)so she offered to send out an engineer, (who never showed up) thought a card did come through the door?? a week later i recieved another bill this time showing at £1568!!! straight on the phone again passed from pillar to post this time passed to customer complaints, finally who were a it more helpful. after all this and more phone calls they came to a conclusion that long before EDF had screwed up the meter readings by missing a digit which explained the really high Bill, now since then Npower have re billed for £276 and i set up a monthly repayment of 30 but i still havent heard anything back from it since and they did say payment by the 1st of October? i thought this would be the end of it but EDF have been emailing me with a new Bill to view but i dont think i should pay it due to thier mistake was only with them for like 2 months as well i think, they have no idea what my new address is plus im sure they would of tried to call me?? ifthey had any details, not sure what to do about either of them :/

You dont specifically say why Npowers bill has suddenly been reduced from £1568 to £276 but if EDF are also suddenly trying to rebill you do I assume it's for the difference in consumption between Npowers earlier & latest bills?

If you believe EDF are billing you over a £1000 worth of electricity & will simply forget because they don't know where your moving to your kidding yourself. They will simply engage someone to trace you and pursue the debt as necessary (and thats if Npower wont just tell them "on the quiet").

Hi sorry it was cos of the mis read reading i mentioned EDF got it wrong months and months before so they re billed at an "estimate" as neither party could give an accurate bill as both companies had been billing and a completely wrong meter reading. I dont see how i should have to pay EDF aswel due to thier mistake, EDF have not been in contact with me regarding the matter other than an email that said thankyou for being patient new bill login to view?? is a bit random to make a huge mistake like that not contact me and then just send me an email with a new bill all just seems a bit suspect to me. especialy how both companies made such a huge mistake on the meter readings and all the surrounding things i went trough with Npower.

    Thanks

EDF have to use the switch reading, they have no choice there as to change it, the suppliers have to re-agree a new switch reading within 12 months (it can be achieved later but its more complicated and doesn't affect you)

So, do EDF's readings on the final hill match the start readings on the Npower opening bill?

A missing digit may imply that you had under payed EDF and the same with Npower. But who supplied the original switch reading? If you surely it would match the meter? Did they fail your reading and use an estimate instead back then?

Deemed readings are provided by the new suppliers agent based on your reading history but this could have been rendered inaccurate by low readings.

EDF won't be able to rebill you if the energy is over 12 months old unless you have prevented them billing this in some way (giving false readings for instance) and they know this so will try it on until you remind them of this!

You are also entitled to £22 of compensation for that engineer not turning up and a further £22 if not payed in 10 days. I guess Npower decided to "try it on" until you found this part out!
