Fluffymuffy - it ain't the computer it's Vista. My husband's had  problems with it for quite a while now - too many bugs at the moment.

It's not a bug it's lack of development of the drivers which in the case of OP's scanner that's Xerox's fault. If there are problems of Tesco software working with Vista, again that's Tesco/Ability's fault for not bringing out a compatible version. Microsoft have done everything they can to help developers and let them have Vista code for years now. If they can't be bothered to do anything about it that's not an inherent problem with Vista. I'm sure Vista does have bugs, there isn't a piece of software you could name that doesn't but the majority of problems are the responsibility of third parties and this is not unique to Vista, it happens every time a new OS comes out.

I've got a Xerox scanner they say drivers won't be available for another 4 months. I'm taking my scanner back for a refund I think, reason: not working. PC World only hae 5 scanner models so I'll end up paying more than I need to. Maybe sue xerox through the small claims court as it's their fault
Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
    Blackadder: Yes it is.
    Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.
