Damage to courtesy car

Hi, I was involved in a car accident last week and have been given a courtesy car while mine is in the garage being repaired. Last night some lovely person decided to scratch the courtesy car all down the passenger side (from door handle of passenger door right down to the bumper). I didn't take out cdw...which i am now seriously regretting... and I don't know what to do? Should I try and get the damage repaired myself or should I report it to the hire company and pay the £250 excess they want? If I were to tell the hire company would that then affect my no claims discount?? Can somebody please advise me what to do?? I am so upset that somebody could do this to me.

yep, it will cost you ££ but any other option will cost more and probably much more
  • That's what I thought, thank you.
  • Some courtesy cars are insured by the garage and some are insured by your policy. Depending on which of the two it is would dictate if it impacts your NCD.

Which ever route you take obviously you should inform your insurers of the additional incident.

and suffer increased premiums for the next x years plus maybe lose some NCB as well as paying the £200 excess.

Or you could keep your mouth shut, phone your local smart repair (wo)man, give them the £200 and have an easy life

Just a talent I have but even if it's more then it's still likely less than excess + premium loadings + lost NCB

It's a good general rule...stay away from contact with insurers if at all possible as it will almost invariably end up costing you £££££££

I agree, smart repair they wont tell the difference, I got quoted £120 for a full bumper / rear quarter and cant tell.

Yes lets tell the insurance so they can load it, hence the only reason they want you to tell them and no other.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Which is otherwise known as insurance fraud.... not saying it isnt what the majority would do but it isnt something to be proudly promoting either
