Avoid Swiftcover.com at all cost!

If you're thinking of taking insurance with Swiftcover.com - think again! I will never buy a policy from them, and strongly advise you to check every detail before doing so, and best of all - don't do it!!

I've just spoke with Swiftcover.com regarding my home insurance policy. I did not accepted the renewal quote and deleted the direct debit instruction, yet they've simply started a new policy for me. Phoned them up now to cancel it, no problem. I've already cancelled the policy for the car last month, after my friend was told few hours after he had an accident that his policy was cancelled two days before due to the fact they weren't able to contact him to verify some details. Apparently he didn't answer three phone calls (he was doing 12 hours shifts, phone was in his car) so they've decided to cancel it.
As I was asked for a proof of no claims discount from current insurance provider - as I was on the phone to Swift I asked if they can send me the proof of NCD. I've been told they can send me a proof up to 2009, but nothing for the last three and a half years, as there is a payment on the policy for cancelling it and until it's paid they won't send me the NCD for 7 years. If I'll pay for the the cancellation they'll be happy to sen me current entitlement.

Can they refuse sending the document showing my previous four years and three completed yearly agreements? I see them as four separate cases, three policies have been paid up in full, three completed separate contracts, one, last was cancelled and due to the fee they won't send me the NCD??? Is this legal?

  • I have no advice, but wanted to support what you are saying. I too clicked the box to say that they were not to keep my credit card details and they still automatically renewed. Not only that, they used the credit card details, proving that they had kept them. No point having a box to say not to keep the credit card details if they are going to keep them regardless.

I was absolutely fuming this year when I realised that they had automatically renewed and taken the money. Especially as I wanted to use a different credit card this time.

I've taken screen shots this time to prove that I clicked the box as this is the 2nd year running its happened. The first time I thought perhaps I'd made a mistake and not ticked it. Last year I am positive that I did and it was already ticked when I went into the policy. So this year I've taken screen shots.

Good luck with trying to get out of it. I gave up and will be with them until next year now.

Always worth avoiding swiftcover unless you know what you are doing, and are happy with their unusual ts + cs

(Read up on mse and on line to see what their service is like)

Their policy makes you agree to them putting on recycled parts, denying you any ncd for the year if you have a windscreen replacement, tries it on by saying you must have a current MOT as a condition (even though they know this is unenforceable), etc etc.

To be fair, I had 2 accidents last year. One my fault and one not. I had not had an accident in 20 years and then had 2 in 6 weeks. There were no problems at all getting the work done and it was all very efficient.

The only problem was that I have a 7 seater and they gave me an ice cream carton to drive while my was being fixed. It seated 4 people maximum. Not great for a family of 5 in the six week holidays. (We only have the 1 car in our family).

I think some of that could do with clarification.

I'm with Axa, but it's effectively the same

A windscreen claim does not lose the no claims bonus. It just stays the same as last year, rather than advance a year.

For most people that makes no or only a couple quid difference, though it would be frustrating for someone in the first year or two.
  • Been with them a while now, had two claims, one for taking car for a swim and some prat reversing into me.

Both dealt with efficiently. They are even taking prat to court to get my money back.

Sounds more like spin than "clarification".

You have reworded exactly what I said:

It's clarification. Some people might misread what you said as meaning lost no claims bonus same as for an accident
