GCH been on for over 3 weeks and log burner same. I try and do alternate nights with each but its colder with log burner all at least up stair it is. I cant economise much due to two people in house who suffer from cold0

Desperatley trying not to, end up sat in a dressing gown for most of the day. But its only a matter of time......!0

OFCH been on for weeks but the acid test is the coal fire. It's been lit on at least three occasions now - that is a signal to us that it's getting very wintry.0

Mines been on for about the last month. My living room is about 14deg without it this time of year!0

I will try not to use it until November, but I don't know how some people magage without heating until December. I guess living in a flat where everybody around you is heating helps. I live in a house.0

My gas fire has been on twice. Once last week and again tonight for 1.5 hours as it was only 16 degrees when I got home. Hopefully this will keep my living room warm for the rest of the evening. The rest of the house is cold. I need to put off switching on the central heating as long as possible.
I am also wearing a fleece jacket, fleece waistcoat and jumper.0 -
I just turn on and off when needed. Never have it going constantly. We have a coal fire but have had both lit the last 3-4 weeks. I work at home but don't bother in the day as my wife is at work and feels the cold more. Old semi-Victorian with no cavity wall gets very cold. The kitchen has no radiator (not for the want of trying to get a plumber to fit one with both not bothering to get back to us) so that gets freezing in Winter. For those here who have not put it on yet I find it hard to believe as you must be pretty miserable sat there feeling cold. For the sake of a few quid is it worth being uncomfortable ?0

Wood burner only in a ex-cold old victorian house. No CH on and dont intend to have it on before December. Living & Dinning room is a cosy 25 and upstairs around 18 (door slightly open to allow the excess heat up) burner (8Kw) just ticking over.
I have just insulated (hemp) under the suspended floor and it has a massive difference to the house.
Actually quite a lot of victorian house do have cavity walls. Its not something that your average knock on the door fitter can do but it can be done... not sure at this stage if its worth the potential issues0 -
