Buy outside ebay, how to pay?

I found a piece of furniture I liked on ebay, it was part of a set so I asked the seller if she would sell me just 1 piece. She say yes but prefers to do it outside ebay to avoid fees. I agree with this but I'm not sure how to pay for it.. I can't do cash on collection as I won't be the one collecting the item (I will arrange a courier), is a bank transfer the only option? I'm a bit scared I won't have any sort of protection if this person dissapears with my money..
How could I do it?

This may not be a good idea. I've read of several cases where the buyer has eventually been ripped off by a seller suggesting settlement outside ebay. Be careful.0

Actually against eBay rules for her to do this, so why not offer to for her to sell it a buy now and add extra to either the agreed price or the the courier deliver cost to cover for fees she would be charged. This way you are protected and so is she!Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0

You can still pay via paypal, she can send an invoice to your email. I don't knwo what kind fo protection you get though if its outside eBay.0

You get the same paypal protection as normal, so long as you make sure it's marked as for goods not a gift payment.0

Just ask her to send an invoice for Goods not Gifts0

I'm afraid Paypal is not possible as they take a commission too, which the seller wants to avoid. The price of the item is > £300.
The seller has > 500 operations on ebay and a 100% feedback, so I'm quite confident I can trust this person, but still...
I might suggest a buy-it-now for a higher price so it includes the fee.
Thanks for your replies.0 -

I think you may have just saved yourself from being scammed £300.0 -
I'm sorry but I'm NOT walking away!!!
I'm 100% sure this is NOT an scam...
I can also go and pick up the item myself, but I need to rent a van and waste a day.. I much rather organise a courier, but I might end up doing this instead, still thinking about it.0 -

The seller is requesting you don't use ebay OR paypal, and you're 100% sure it's not a scam...? :eek:0 -

Well you have been warned. It's a lot of money to lose.
Not sure people here will be too understanding if your next post is a "pity poor me, I've been scammed"0
