Absolutey - if you've got time and/or money to throw at this then there are solutions.Alisha2008 wrote: »I'm sorry but I'm NOT walking away!!!

It sounds from this post that the item is worth significantly more than the £300 to you, in which case it is worth finding a solution.
Probably the easiest, as you mentioned, is to offer to pay more to cover the PayPal fees.0 -
The seller is requesting you don't use ebay OR paypal, and you're 100% sure it's not a scam...?
Yes.. I sell on ebay and I'm fed up of paying fees to paypal and ebay.. I would do exactly the same if I could (specially with something that expensive).
I've never been scammed in my life, and I doubt very much I ever will.. that's why I'm trying to see a way of protecting myself here, even when I trust 99% this person... sadly it doesn't seem to be a way.
I need to check the price of hiring a van against the courier + extra to cover the ebay+paypal fee, but probaby hiring a van will be cheaper.
Thanks to all0 -
Why not do this? Pay cash after you have checked the item.Alisha2008 wrote: »

I am interested in why you trust them.0

I trust them because it was a normal auction from a person with 100% feedback, I asked to buy only one of the items, we exchanged some emails and the person seems honest. Believe it or not, there are honest people out there. (I'm one of them..)
It's just not an scam.. for me seems pretty obvious! It could be an scam if it was a buy-it-now auction and the person had asked me to pay in advance and not pick-up myself, but it hasn't been the case. I've been the one asking to buy it (without an auction), and in fact they have already re-listed the other item...
martindow, the only reason not to hire the van is the waste of money and time, the courier is much cheaper... but it will give me some peace of mind so i'll probably end up doing it. It's also not a bad idea to take a look at the item too...0 -

I hope I didn't offend, I was really interested in why you would trust this person. I didn't know if you had previous dealings, it was a limited market etc etc.
You have been given some very good advice on here and it is by people who don't want you to lose anything.
If you are happy to go ahead knowing the risks then that is up to you entirely and not something others should disagree with. But, it's a forum full of wrongdoings and scammers stories, so it's no wonder most are a little sceptical.
Protect yourself as much as you can.0 -
Thanks, I will post an update after I pick up the item so the scepticals are happy

Hi, I finally decided to use a courier and paid the item by paypal (I paid £10 to cover the paypal fee). The courier was from Shiply, everything worked out perfectly and I'm really happy with my new sofa, which cost me a fraction of its retail price

Nice one, OP.
Thanks for the update.
I think that £10 was well spent for the peace of mind.0
