MSE News: Scottish Power bills to rise 7%

This 7% increase is on top of all the "back door" increases every time a new tariff comes out.
At the end of Aug. my ONS14 expired and I switched to thier fixed tariff BUt this was still a massive increase of 23%.
The only cheaper tariff (for me at that time) was their OES19 and that was an increase of 18%.
If I had gone for that, along with this latest 7% rise, it would have been an increase of 25%.
It`s not the annual/twice annual increases that are doing the main damage but their continual new tariffs, each one with a price higher than the previous.
The government don`t give a toss because of the VAT they are clawing in.0 -

The energy suppliers increase prices.. people use less gas/electricity.. the energy suppliers increase prices further because people use less energy and don't bring enough profits.. people use even less... prices have to go up again to protect profit levels....
The government really has to step in I think.
Not sure about the final sentence, since the first paragraph is EXACTLY green-inspired government policy!0 -
as anyone actually checked the thread on their home page "price changes" and have anyone else noticed that NOT ALL are increasing? i,m on energy saver 20 and it states "Good news! You are not affected by this increase in prices"0

So does the government want us not to use the electricity and gas at all? Because that's where we are going. The poorest already choose between food and heating.
What I meant is government should try to make the market even more competitive and regulate it in the way it doesn't affect the poorest the most. I need to vote for less green-inspired party next time. But as with everything else it's probably the EU's fault anyway0 -
well just got the news i was hoping for anyone on the energy online saver 20 with Scottish power WILL NOT see any price hikes as suggested yesterday in press, good job i didnt fix to a higher tarriff. for those who want to check they simply go to scottish powers website and click price changes, and click their relavant tarriff it will show weather your tarriff will rise or stay the same.
Hi Paul
I have checked on our systems and OLE saver 20 is not subject to a price change.

If you e-mail some details to I can take a look for you. Thanks David @ ScottishPower
I have a Online Energy Saver 20 and have been informed that the increases do not effect me can you confirm this???"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0 -
Cameron and Osborne must be living in cookoo land if they do not take care of electricity and gas bills etc and pensioners because they will lose the vote of pensioners and their immediate families. What planet are they on? They do not seem to care?? Why are they allowing foreign governments to control our energy supplies?"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0

I think they are trying to tell us that the prices will go up but because you have a discounted rate you will not pay as much but you will pay more because before you had a discount of 8.7% on their standard direct debit rates but as they have put their prices up by 7% okay there is 1.7% difference but I would prefer the 8.7%"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"0
