Did you read the MSE article?

If so, you will have seen...
I.e. what is there at the moment is a test version.

When accessing the site, I am sure you also saw...

    Certainly.
One should never ever comment on beta releases of sites, because when they are released, absolutely all the bugs of the beta will have been fixed, and they will work perfectly.

True, however the lack of content on the site will be due to it being a test site.

I do wish the government would stop wasting taxpayers money on things like this, when there are clearly far more important things to be done.

That's because the government has declared us all healed.

    GOV.UK wrote: »
Hi I work for Government Digital Service and we have worked very hard to make sure that links to specific information remain live. If you want to see how we have done that you can read all about it in an article written by my colleague Paul Downey. I am not allowed insert link into this post - but if you visit digital [dot] cabinetoffice [dot] gov [dot] uk the article is called No Link Left Behind

We hope that you will find the GOV.UK, simpler, clearer and faster to use. Hope this helps.

Quoted for posterity. Of course, some random one-post-wonder absolutely IS a government employee/agent involved in that website. :)

I disagree with this to a degree.

If a website upgrade costs 10 million, that might be seen as waste.
But, in principle websites can remove serious amounts of cost elsewhere.

Reducing the numbers of call centre staff required to handle a reduced call volume, having those calls that the customer does need to make be shorter, ...

Although the apparent inability to conform to forum rules and obtain permission to post makes it a fairly safe bet.....

I also cannot find a copy of http://www.dwp.gov.uk/publications/specialist-guides/decision-makers-guide/ at all in the new website.

Would that perhaps be because the new gov.uk website replaces the direct.gov.uk website, whereas the link you give is from the dwp.gov.uk website?

I've used a few pages of the beta site (Google found them). The pages I found were easier to navigate and had more information than the direct.gov.uk equivalent.

'Easier to use'. Crikey. Directgov was about the easiest website you could imagine anyway. If you dumb it down any more you might as well just use pictures :(

I like it better than directgov and I think gov.uk is a better web address.

However, it is very boring on the eye. I can't see why they can't have the simplicity of the text and font, and they have something down the left and right of the screens to liven it up.
