Pup Malware

When I ran malwarebytes scan yesterday the result showed some pup malware in my pc, how did the pup malware get past malwarebytes and avast that I have as protection ? Seems daft to me scanning to find problems as I would like to stop them getting in in the first place.

Any ideas ?

Depends what it is, pup means potentially unwanted, which could include legitimate programs, could be harmless

Pup's are "Potentially unwanted programs" - very minor.

What was detected exactly? - post the log.

If the logs tab is empty then it's gone.

Be careful what you download, detections such as this are usually borne out of junkware you install.

There's a conflict of interests with some of the advice on this site. Some of the money saving/coupon type programs advised to be installed in other areas of the site are at odds with the advice handed out here.

The trade off for the coupons/savings is agreeing to install the vendors adware. We'd tell you to remove them or not install them in the first place.
