moving recordings from a Sky+ to Sky+HD box

Hello all, I need your help. I recently purchased a Sky+ HD box (not directly from sky) and want to transfer my recordings from my old Sky+ (Non HD) box onto this new drive. I am aware of a feature called copy+ but know very little about it, all of my recordings are films that are on channels that do not require a subscription (ie Film4/ ITV/ BBC channels) but I have started recording on the new box (not yet paired it with Sky so i cant use pause on most channels but that doesnt bother me, and only really record free channels anyway) and do not want to delete the new recordings on the new box first as there are some films that I have been waiting a while to be broadcast on the new box, Can you wonderful people advise me on if this is wise/possible as I have heard that some people cant move recordings onto a new box from other forums. Its all standard definition, I just want to move things like Toy Story and Wall.e over to my new box without losing the ones from the last week or so its been running.
I do have SOME tech knowledge but very basic I am much better with TVs/VCR's/DVD players than I am with computers and I even have an external hard drive which I can swap drives in as i have done it with some old laptops to retrieve data but otherwise not very technically minded but I think that its a SATA not an IDE drive and I have never opened up a sky box ever
Thank you in advance, I really appreciate your time.

You can copy the programmes from your old HDD to the new one however AFAIK it is not possible yet to merge them with new recordings and will overwrite them. BTW copy+ is not suitable for transferring your recordings (it will not cope with the latest firmware on the HD boxes) - you will need software called ExPVR (google it) and check on their forums whether their software will yet allow merging of the two sets of recordings.0

As above, use ExPVR, and I don't think you can do what you want. Works much better with fresh drives. I've never gone from SD to HD Sky box, just upgraded the HDD in my Sky+HD box from 500gb to 2TB. That's easy, as long as the new drive is empty.
You need to either get the stuff on the new drive watched, then write over it with the old drive's stuff,
or: record stuff off either hard drive onto a DVD burner or similar thru SCART or whatever.0
