Uh oh, cat in trouble with neighbours

My neighbour ( who we don't get on with) told me today the cat has been pooing in his garden, he isn't lying as I caught him doing it today.

Now as much as we don't get on with the neighbour I sympathise with him, our cat should not be doing it and I want to discourage it... so my question is...

How???

He does it in the bit where my neighbour has stones in his rose garden. My cat does go inside and he has a litterbox, he does not go in our garden. Any advice to get him to stop ?? I told the neighbour if he catches him to chase him/throw water at him but obviously he can't be wathching 24/7.

You could offer to buy your neighbour some bigger stones, are the current ones an ideal size for a cat wanting to use it as a litter box?

it's worth running an advanced search, this issue has come up several times. Cocoa shells as a mulch, one of those gadgets that make a high pitched sound?

See these are things that he would need to do, I can't really go put things in his garden... he isn't the easiest to speak to and we rarely see him but could suggest them on the rare occasion we do see him. His garden is directly next to ours, seperated by a 4ft fece, he is into gardening.

I myself will get a water pistol and soak cat whenever I see him going in there.

I said to him ' I will try my best to keep him out' his answer ' don't try just do it'.

I actually CAN'T stand him but get that he is annoyed. I need to remember that though and not let my hatred for him get in the way. Bf says it's Karma LOL

Can you add something to the top of your garden fence to keep cat contained?

You can research products and offer to pay for the one of his choice - you might communicate this by note if you find him tough to speak to? If he refuses to install them there is little you can do short of catproofing your garden. Cocoa shells form a mat when they get wet so inhibit weed growth and as they slowly rot down they feed the plants so ideal for gardeners.

Seriously, get some orange oil and ask your neighbour to drip it around the place where kitty is pooping. Cats hate citrus and won't go there.

I am sympathetic to your problem, my girl used to use the neighbours garden too, it has taken a few months but now she only uses her litter tray. She will come in from the garden to poop in her tray now too, which is good as I can see that her tummy is fine and I am not upsetting the neighbours!

    Good luck!

How on earth did you manage that???

Mine knows what the tray is for but will only use it when she has been kept inside (e.g. for a vet appt) and is absolutely desperate. She will spend several hours trying to get out of the catflap rather than use a litter tray.

Thanks everyone, he used to come inside to do it and only recentley has started going outside.

I will speak to him the next I see him about orange oil, will see if I can get some online and even put it through his letterbox with a note, or give his daughter to give to him as we do get on with her ( she doesn't live with him ).

As for cat proofing fence, it is an option in part but he could get into his garden via another neighbour ( at the back of ours') garden so he would need 'cat proofing' on a bit of fence that doesn't belong to me - again though it's something I would happily provide.

It does seem that the stones are small white ones similar to the litter ( we use catsan) but I don't think changing these will help as we have caught him doing it in our front garden beneath the tree and it's just soil there.

I think you are doing the right thing in sorting this out now as an angry neighbour could lead to the antifreeze solution. Hope everything gets sorted out quickly.
